Writing a Policy and Procedure Manual That Passes Survey
How to write home care policies that match your actual operations and survive a state inspection.
A policy manual is not a binder you buy and shelve. Surveyors read it, then watch whether you do what it says.
Match policies to operations If your policy says supervisory visits happen every 60 days, your records must prove every 60 days. Edit the policy or fix the operation — never both at once.
Required sections Client rights, admission/discharge, infection control, emergency preparedness, medication management, complaint and grievance, HR and competency, supervision, QA/PI, HIPAA, and incident reporting.
Annual review Date-stamp the review, sign the front page, and document staff in-service. Surveyors look for the date.
We provide custom-built manuals as part of our Done-For-You and Standard packages — never a generic template.
